California High School

Katie Said:

What are the important dates for California high school students?

We Answered:

Application deadlines for UC's and CSU's are Nov. 30, 2008 for fall 2009 enrollment. Don't miss these dates or it's community college for you!

You can do something morally questionably or highly inappropriate.

Southern California high school teachers-please share your experiences?

We Answered:

i think it depends on what classes you teach.
my school is part of lausd and we have ap,honors,ae,regular classes.
it really depends what level you teach. i've been with the honors kids since middle school and what i hear from teachers is generally that the regular classes give them a hard time because most of them dont give care about school and aren't interested in learning. ap, honors classes are well-behaved and respect the teacher (if the teacher actually teaches and is respectable that is...)

Allan Said:

If i pass the California High School Proficency Exam (CHSPE) what courses should i take after?

We Answered:

My daughter went to independent study in Newport Beach for a while but eventually wrote the CHSPE and passed it first try in 2004 when she just turned 17. She finished undergrad university with a dual major last year, is in grad school now, is doing research for the federal government and just received her fourth offer today for a fully paid doctorate with a stipend.

That is what you can do with the CHSPE.

If however, you feel you are not ready for college or university yet, go to a community college for a year to get filled out on what you feel you may be lacking and to figure out your university plans. Because some university majors in the sciences require prerequisites you may not have gotten by passing the CHSPE.

But once you pass the CHSPE, to heck with high school. The social aspects are overblown. The social life is far better at college. Even community college.

How Can I Prepare For California High School Proficiency Examination?

We Answered:

I don't know off the top of my head, but if you are a high school student, you should ask your school librarian, and they will most likely have a study guide reference section in your school library.

If your school library doesn't have it, then you should ask your school counselor or a teacher. They should have them or be able to give you a list of study prep resources. That's their job, after all!

Katie Said:

California High School Proficiency Examination is it hard and how can i study?

We Answered:

It's basically the same as the GED in other states (without the social studies and science portion).

For mathematics, you should know the following:

- Number operations and number sense
- Geometry
- Basic statistics and probability
- Algebra

For the reading, you should take your time and remember that almost all the questions will focus on:

- Comprehension
- Organization
- Word usage and mechanics
- Grammar

In terms of the essay, they're not going to expect poetic prose or college level research. You only need to make your case as quickly and efficiently as possible. It's shouldn't be difficult.

First, remember to answer the question. Nervous test takers have the tendency to go off on tangents.

Second, it is always an argumentative essay, so (1) make your thesis statement clear in the introduction, and (2) the body of the essay should back up your thesis statement.

Discuss It!
