Community Service Hours For High School Students
Olga Said:
Should high school students be required to do 40 hours of community service in order to graduate? We Answered:
Sounds like a great idea to me. Would have to be provisions for certain groups of people though.Judy Said:
how many hours are high school students usually supposed to do for community service? We Answered:
At my school, we have to do a minimum of 144 hours in order to get the community service seal on our diploma. But I suppose if you really want to help out your community or even earn a scholarship for your community service work, you should do as many hours as possible! Also, colleges like to see that you care about your community.Good luck!

Do you think Students should Take Community Service Hours Before They Graduate High School? We Answered:
I believe students should have to participate in community service. Most kids go through high school thinking that it's all fun and games. They need to learn if they don't get a good education that their not going to make it in the real world. I've personally have participated in community service a couple of times and it just makes you feel soooo good. Your helping people and the community. It makes you a better person.Lance Said:
40 Hours Monthly Involuntary Community Service as High School graduation requirement? We Answered:
I think forty hours a month is too much, since it would mean that a student spends more time in community service than in any one of his classes. I would support a requirement of two or three hours a week, but I think students should receive academic credit and grades for it. I also think that school counselors should take special care to match students to appropriate placements, so that the experience is valuable to them in the future. However, in another sense, ANY such experience should be valuable and should be the source of a job recommendation some time down the road.Mario Said:
What organization or facilities offers community hours services for high school students? We Answered:
Hard to say without knowing where you are, but there are tons of places that need volunteers. Hospitals, schools, city attractions (zoos, museums, theatres, etc.), community organizations such as the United Way, food banks, etc., special events and festivals.Try googling "name of your city" and "volunteers" - see what you find.
Does your high school have a guidance office? They should know what opportunities are available in your city as well.

Community Service Hours for a high school student? We Answered:
If this will be your most significant extracurricular activity and you are applying to competitive schools, you need at least 400 hours, which could easily be completed over two summers. You should state in the personal statement section of your university or college application why you were unable to participate in on campus extra curricular activities during the school year. Frequent reasons are the need to work at a job, family responsibilities, and transportation problems caused by bus schedules. Being too busy studying is not a good reason as it shows that the student needs to study so much that there is no time for extracurricular activities and therefore makes the student look not too strong academically.I mentioned two summers since if you volunteered for forty hours a week for ten weeks over one summer, the situations of working at a part time job or having to assist a family member would not apply as the volunteer time would take longer than the school day.
Veronica Said:
Is there anything I can do at my local recruiting office for community service hours as a High School Student? We Answered:
Enlist. Or you can call them and ask what they need help with. If you are not interested in enlisting they may not be interested in your help.
