Cyber High School

Brent Said:

Is is possible to switch from cyber schooling to homeschooling for your senior year of high school?

We Answered:

Sure, just do not re enroll with the cyber school.
Assuming you are over the compulsory attendance age, that is really all you need to do in PA.
After compulsory attendance is reached, no more affidavit, portfolio, or evaluation is required.

Is cyber (high school) hard? Can you work ahead? How many hours a day does it take?

We Answered:

wether or not the work is hard depends- are you taking advanced courses? if you take higher level courses, then they may be more challenging. the work load shouldn't be too hard as long as you don't procrastinate! that's one of the biggest mistakes online school students make! they are not motivated because they don't have a teacher telling them what to do, so they fall behing.

you can work way ahead if you are willing to work hard. i am enrolled in a cyber charter school (21CCCS.org- waiting to get my laptop and books!) and i am going to try to finish two grades in one.
my school is block scheduled, so you have 3 or 4 classes a semester instead of 6-8 all year. so, if i work hard and finish my first 3 classes within the first 9 weeks, then i will have 3 new classes- and if i can keep up with that speed, i will finish 12 classes in one year, which will be 9th and 10th grade.

how long you work per day depends on your school and your own schedule.
there is an online school in pennsylvania called PA Cyber.
here are some answers from their site:

Q. How much time is spent doing school work during the day/year?
A. PA Cyber is open all year long, which gives students choices and flexibility. Students in
grades K-7 are required to complete 900 hours of instruction and students in grades 8-12 are
required to complete 990 hours of instruction. We recommend that approximately one hour be
spent on each subject per day, which is about five hours per day. Each student is required to
attend school 180 days per year.

Q. How is student progress monitored?
A. The progress of a student is monitored through the student’s Instructional Supervisor (IS) on
a weekly basis. The manner in which it is monitored greatly depends on the type of curriculum
that is chosen at the time of enrollment however, parents and students may see any grades for
work submitted at any time via the Internet.

so, if you worked 5 hours a day (what is usually recommended) then you could work from 9-2 or 7-12, it really just depends no your schedule.

recommendations- do you mean recommendations for an online school?
