Free High School Online

Hilda Said:

Is there any free high school online that offers any credit recovery for free?

We Answered:

There are plenty of free online high schools that offer credit recovery. They are all listed by state on this site: http://www.onlinehighschool.org
you probably want to decide if you are trying to do this while enrolled at your traditional school because you can't be enrolled in two public (free) schools at the same time.

Pedro Said:

Are there FREE online high-school classes I can take?

We Answered:

1. Figure out what classes you should be taking.
2. Go to world book and look up the requirements for your age.
3. Make a list of the subjects etc.
4. Go to the library and check out books on those subjects.
5. Read read read read read read.

6. Talk to other homeschoolers and see if you can homeschool at their house.

7. Take your list to a librarian and say "help".

8. Decide which subjects you want to study. Go online and find the books/curricula you want to use. Either make a list and give it to your Mum saying "please buy these" or go to your Mum and say "This is the list of things I need for this year. It will cost X amount. Please give me your credit card so I can purchase them." Your Mum might be happy that you're taking such a pro-active attitude to your own education. =)

9. Old Fashioned Education has a HUGE resource of *free* educational materials organized by subject and also grade-level

10. Accelerated Achievement costs about $100 and has everything you need - except math. The free math course can be found at the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching - website below. I found Saxon to be better and you might find low-cost used books online, but if it MUST be free, then CIMT, while somewhat confusing, is the way to go.

For numbers 3 and 4 above, here is an example:

World book lists 29 subjects to be studied in Social Studies. On a traditional school schedule this equates to about one subject a week with seven weeks left over for you to delve deeper into subjects that really capture your interest.

The first subject in Social Studies is Prehistoric peoples. Go to the library. Check out a plethora of books on that subject. Read 'em. Pick something that captured your interest in that reading. Write a report on it.

And so on and so forth.

Discuss It!
