if they have north face ones you should totally get one, they are great for hauling tons of books and homework...... if they have more than backpacks you should get a a cute tote, maybe LeSportsac one?? they are expensive but really cute, they come in a myraid number of cool patterns also!!

Not at all.You are at school for one reason, to learn. Not to try and be popular, or to please other folk. So just be yourself. If you need a backpack carry it, if not then don't.

Almost everyone in HS carries backpacks. At my sisters HS the boys wear cartoon character backpacks, with Ninja Turtles, Dora the Explorer, Diego, etc. lol.

It really depends. Add some details. Are you in Honors or Advanced classes? Are all your classes with textbooks around the same time? How many times can you go to your locker?

My freshman year, I was pummeled with textbooks. I had one in Bio, Geometry, English, History, and French. English, History and French were together, so I had to carry all those textbooks plus binders! Bio and Geometry were together, too, and I had to carry THOSE books. But I was in Honor's classes, so you might have fewer textbooks to carry if you don't.

Unless you want to go to your locker in between all your classes to switch books (or carry them all around in your arms all day) I would recommend bringing a backpack so you can carry all the books you need with you comfortably. You can bring a purse too for your personal stuff like wallet, cell phone, make up, tampons, etc. and keep that in your backpack when you don't need it. When I was in high school everyone had a backpack for all their books and homework, and some girls had purses for their "girly" stuff. You aren't "supposed" to bring a purse, nor are you "supposed" to bring a backpack. Bring whatever is going to make it easiest for you to carry all your books around. Who cares if backpacks are "ugly", they make it easier to carry all your stuff around - and besides, you can find backpacks that have cute designs on them, you just have to actually look for them.
