Randall Said:

What high school classes do I have to take to have a chance of being accepted to Penn State Main?

We Answered:

There's no hard and fast guideline, but if you'd like to get into University Park, you should not only maintain a high GPA but also stretch yourself and take some harder classes. Have any of the classes you've taken been honors classes? How about AP classes? If not, I suggest that you begin taking those harder classes. (I would expect that most freshman at University Park have had algebra 2 and trig. In fact, I would expect that about half have taken calculus.)

But classes and grades are only one part of the whole package. The admissions counselor will also be looking for a high SAT/ACT score (the average score for an incoming freshman at UP is much higher than those at branch campuses) and evidence of extracurricular activities.

Good luck!

What high school classes should a kid take to get accepted into college for computer game design?

We Answered:

The best course of action in high school is always to take the most challenging classes you can that your school offers. It's very important to have a base of core classes. Encourage him to take electives that he's interested in and relate to computer science and/or graphic design.
Also, extracurriculars are very important. Your son should try to develop well-rounded interests. Volunteer work is very important. As far as computer game designing goes, try to get him into some kind of computer club at his school or in your community. This will expose him to what he'll be studying in college.

What high school classes should I take to become a medical assistant?

We Answered:

Topics and classes usually taught in a medical assistant course include biology, chemistry (and phlebotomy/drawing blood and giving injections), anatomy & physiology, keyboarding, machine/medical transcription and office managment skills.

Unfortunately, there aren't supposed to be too many jobs for the MA (or medical biller or coder) despite what those private $$ career/tech schools proclaim. With the numerous training programs available, the field is saturated. A lot of MAs have said how frustrating it is that most employers prefer, at least, 1-2 years experience in the field to possibly get the job.

Please do talk with your guidance counselor as to what course to take for next year.

With schooling, please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools (may have 'bricks and mortar' buildings and may be 'accredited') such as penn foster, capella, ITT tech, sanford brown, everest, ashford, devry, university of phoenix, allied college/high-tech, strayer, argosy, US career, kaplan, career step, walden, ashworth, colorado tech, stratford career, ashford, remington and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit' (and course credits may Not transfer): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.
