High School Degree

Joy Said:

What is the highest paying job for someone with only a high school degree?

We Answered:

There are a few jobs that earn a surprising amount with just a high school diploma. I should know, I've done a few of them. Working a forklift can earn you between 12 and 15 an hour where I live. Also, if you don't mind busting your butt and sucking up, working Paid On Call for a fire department can lead to a full time gig in about a year that will pay pretty well. Also, working construction or paving or even working a plow in the winter can make you a decent living.

What is the difference between a high school degree and an adult school degree?

We Answered:

When you say adult school, do you mean to get your GED? cause there is a big difference between a GED and High school diploma. Finishing highschool would definitely be a plus, but not for everyone. My brother just got so far behind cause of my sister, that he doesn't feel comfortable in school anymore. Now he's going for his GED and I think he's doing the right thing.

Is it possible to become a teacher if you don't have a high school degree?

We Answered:

You can get into a college with your GED, but it's best to transfer into an University via a Community College.

You'll have to work harder to prove yourself to the College Admissions Office, but you can still get in with a GED. I have known some people to do it.

Without a college degree, you will not be able to be a kinder teacher. You may find a job in a pre-school, but even they will want some college credits in early child development classes.

Good luck!

What resources are aviable for non traditional schooling person seeking High School Degree?

We Answered:

I think that you are looking for a General Education Diploma. These can be received from most community colleges. The GED test can be taken with or without classes. Some people need to study to pass the GED and others just need to take the test.

My daughter began college classes *without* obtaining a General Education Diploma. At age 19 she took the college placement test and stepped right into college credit courses.

If you need the GED to get a job -- go ahead and do it. But you may only need a placement test if you are wanting to begin college. Ask in the admissions office. Be sure to ask more than one person. An admissions counselor can help you to know what to do in order to get started.
