High School Dropout Rate

Clayton Said:

The high school dropout rate is 40-50% in some inner city areas. What is the future for most of these kids?

We Answered:

Most inner city kids have a lack of resources, ambition, and experienced teachers (from what we hear). As a black female student going to school in the inner city, I feel that we are highly sterotyped as lazy and troubled kids when in actuality that is certainly not the case for everyone. As a senior (graduating in June!), I have a GPA of 4.3 got accepted into my two schools (Chapel and Pfeiffer) and have been offered NUMEROUS scholarships. However, many students at my school cant say the same. I think if we had more qualified teachers, teachers that actually wanted to teach us and knew what they were doing, we could increase our SAT scores.

Howard Said:

what are consequences of the high school dropout rate increasing every year?

We Answered:

socioeconomic status (on both extreme ends: why should I work if my family are billionaires? aka Paris Hilton and the other extreme: I need to drop out and get a job so my family have food on the table)

Also everyone now with the age of the internet wants everything to be done quick and fast and they lost patients...four years of school seems soo much to so many.

Felix Said:

Why is the high school dropout rate in California so high?

We Answered:

Failed public education. I blame the school systems. It's also the parents fault for not teaching the value of education to their kids. My kids will never have the option to drop out because they will have to face severe consequences if they try.

Andrew Said:

What country has the highest high school dropout rate?

We Answered:

Most of the high school dropouts I hear about had a baby at a young age or something. They got their GED instead.
It's not because we're lazy and fat. What does being fat have to do with dropping out of school?
Highschool dropouts sometimes drop out to work for their family...I don't consider that lazy.

Also...we always were a laughing stock among other countries.

Joy Said:

What are the causes of the High School Dropout rate?

We Answered:

According to a recent poll, the number one cause of high school drop out is boredom. That's pretty darn sad, I think. (This was in a news story a couple of days ago.) It isn't that these kids aren't capable of completing high school - the just can't stand to sit around and stare at the walls and each other any more. I think the news article also said that the vast majority of drop outs regret their decision, though.

Marilyn Said:

Are high school dropout rates an International problem?

We Answered:

I live and work in Asia and have come in contact with students in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines. I have seen no problems with dropouts in Korea, Japan, or Taiwan. These countries have strong ties to education. I believe China to also have strong ties to education. The Philippines does have a problem because of poverty. I can't speak much on Sweden or any other European country on high school dropout rates. You could google it though.
