High school dropouts are both an individual (and family) problem as well as a national one. It is individual problem because most (not all) do make considerably less money than graduates. it is a national problem not so much because of lost tax revenue but because we have had a tremendous waste of human resources.

I live in Palm Beach County , Florida. I am in my50's. I know 4 young men in their 30's who all dropped out of high school. One went back got the GED and is working for the county as a mechanic. One Owns his own lawn care business and is making lots of money. Another works for a Air conditioning company they didn't check his background and he lied about high school and another works for a glass company- installing windows in commercial property. They are all making at least $16 an hour some more. I know that adults tell kids don't drop out of school- you'll have to learn to say "do you want fries with that?" but it does not appear to be the reality not based on the limited experience I have anyway. Jobs are out there some not so good but if you want to excel in life that opportunity is there.

You do realize the current state of the economy, right? People with college diplomas are having tough times finding jobs. I've heard of a janitorial job at a school that had over 700 applications. If people with an education cannot find someone to hire them, why would you expect that a high school drop out could find a good paying job? Seriously, stay in school and maybe by the time you graduate the economy will be better.

Solution 1: offer more extra help, so then can pass there courses and not be so stressed about tests, and tell them they need to get through highschool to be sucessful,
Solution2: have rolemodels in the community to positively influence them before other people do.
