Jennifer Said:

Ideas for a high school math project topic?

We Answered:

you can talk about how the numbers "one" and "zero" make up the theory of computers....

you can discuss card counting and a movie/book/story about a group of students at MIT (Massachussets Institute of Technology) who revolutionized card-playing...

you can illustrate and explain 5 different everyday life situations that require math like balancing a checkbook, going to the grocery store, keeping the game score, miles per gallon...

Enrique Said:

what math classes are required taken in high school to get into University of Nebraska College of Law?

We Answered:

Despite the name "College of Law", it's not a college in the sense you seem to be thinking. After high school you must attend and graduate from an undergraduate college or university, which will give you a Bachelor's degree. After that, you should take the LSAT (Law School Aptitude Test) and THEN apply to law school.

As Ranto said, the math you take in high school will help determine where and if you go to undergraduate college at all, but your high school classes have nothing whatsoever to do with your going to law school.

Questions for a High school math teacher?

We Answered:

I'm not a math teacher, but know something about the teaching profession. Math teachers are in high demand. So, if you have a BA in mathematics, you should be hired fast.

You improve your chances by taking "educational" courses, to get certified in Teaching.
Often, these can be finished after being hired.
You can be hired provisionally, while completing your "professional" college courses, required by your state for a teaching certification.

Average starting salary in most large districts is $30-35,000 for a ten month year. After 10-14 years your salary may go up to close to $60,000.
College professors earn more, but require a Doctorate.

You get good vacaton, sick leave and health insurance, that's a bonus.

Conditions of work, is that you have loads of administrative duties. You must learn to budget your time.
Calling parents, attending faculty meetings, keeping records. Ordering supplies. Serving on committees, like "book committee", "staff development", "curriculum development".

You will often have to submit a class syllabus for the whole semester, and keep daily lesson plans for review by administrators, or a substitte teacher.

You will have to prepare most of your own lessons, run them off, search for supplies that often are in short supply, and be well organized, so you can find things.

Hardest part is dealing with absentees, and their makeup homework.
Some students miss a week, and you have to give them either all the work they missed, or have alternative assignments for them. Over a week, you may be dealing with doing "late work" for up to 10-15 students.

If you love math, you may find your students do not.
So, much of your free time will be spent thinking of interestin ways you can make mathematics seem more important to your students, or getting them to submit a higher percentage of their work, with higher standards.

Not easy, but hope you do become a teacher, if prepared.
