High School Musical Films

Johnnie Said:

Do you think films like High School Musical and Hannah Montana create a negative impact on children?

We Answered:

This is stranger question than you realize. I remember a while back, when people were trying to blame violent television shows on the supposed increase of violence among young people. Shows that had been viewed for generations (with no problem) started getting censored. They've butchered the Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, and all those other "violent" programs by censoring them.

So now we have a NONVIOLENT & POSITIVE show that is about a girl that sings...and people are finding problems with this. WOW! You really just can't win in this world.

I always found the argument that fictional television shows, movies or video games could have a HUGE NEGATIVE impact on a child's development to be a load of crap. Just a group of parents trying to point the finger away from their own responsibility. Its a parents job, for better or worse, to teach & shape a child's view of the world, not TV's.

The role of TV, movies, and video games is ENTERTAINMENT. Its supposed to be AN ESCAPE FROM REALITY. I'm not a fan of Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus, but this is absurd. I've been raised on violent shows, movies, and video games. I've never committed a violent crime EVER. I've also watch nonviolent shows like Hannah Montana, where silly unrealistic things happened to its characters. Does anyone remember Kids Incorporated, Adventures in Wonderland? I think I'm pretty grounded to reality.

Good luck with you research, but if children shows like Hannah Montana are really a danger to children, then I don't believe ANY program could be deemed safe.

Do you think that films like High School Musical and all them are too 'old' for little kids?

We Answered:

flirting is part of life. I know a ton if 9 year olds who think it's stupid and to young for them. there is nothing suggestive, or to extreme. I think it's fine for kids around 5
