Canadian Student Contemplating American University. Help?

We Answered:

Honestly, I'm not sure if you'd make it into an Ivy school, unfortunately. Your overall average may be a bit too low, and the 'core' subjects score is not something the American grading system does, so it may not help at all. However, grades are not the only important factor, and your extra activities will definitely help you.

Of course, you never know what could happen. If you are serious about going to John Hopkins, I would apply early decision and see what happens. You may end up wait listed as well.

You are a perfect candidate for any tier 1 university in America, however. So if you don't make it into an Ivy league, you should have no problem with these.

Good luck.

Could I get into an Ivy League school with these credentials?

We Answered:

Are you qualified to attend the Ivy Leagues? Yes. Can you get admitted? The top Ivies accept 10% or less of their applicants, so the odds are already against you. But you're a top-notch candidate and will certainly get into some top school. Try to get in some community service and leadership this next year and then go ahead and apply to the Ivies of your choice. But choose some alternate schools that you would also be comfortable attending and apply there, too.

Do I Have a Chance of Getting into Boarding School?

We Answered:

You sound like a good candidate. As you probably know, your June SSAT cannot be used for admission this year. You have to take the SSAT again or use the ISEE score.
Most of your schools are highly competitive for admission, which means that even if you are a good candidate, you should view Exeter, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Groton, St. Pauls, Lawrenceville and Peddie as reaches. This is because their acceptance rates are very low, and the majority of applicants are competitive. I've heard that Milton's acceptance rate for boarding is around 30% and is much lower for day in high school. You should verify that with Admissions. I think you have good chances at Hill and Brooks. If you really want to go next year, you might consider dropping one of your reach schools in favor of another school with a profile like Hill and Brooks.
Good luck!
