How to get a high school teaching job in PA?We Answered:
You have to go for you undergrad in secondary education specializing in a certain subject. Before finishing the program you need to have passed a series of praxis exams. Praxis I reading, writing, math praxis II content knowlegde & praxis III your specialized subject area.($140 each) You also need to complete a semester of student teaching.I also suggest getting your clearances child abuse & police ($10 yearly) as well as fingerprinting ($40 1x) at an IU in your area.

How difficult is it to secure a high school teaching job?We Answered:
It would depend on where you live...In downtown Los Angeles securing a high school teaching job should be as difficult as tying your shoes.
Now in a place like Calabasas, that might be a little more difficult.
Your area of emphasis is also important... some schools have a higher demand for math or science teachers while other schools have a higher demand for English, history, and liberal arts teachers.
Regardless of where you live or your area of expertise, all you need is a teacher's certification... which you can get by passing a certain test.
The higher education you have, the better... it's normally rare to get a job as a teacher without your master's degree.
More hours of training as a teacher's assistant help on your resume.
Get a job as a tutorer or a substitute teacher in the meantime... that also helps for your resume.

Would I find a high school teaching job easier with a major concentration in integrated science or biology? We Answered:
I don't get what the guy above is saying about you taking the easy way out. I thought you were just asking how to make yourself more marketable. And yeah, he does sound pessimisticbut to answer your question: it just depends.
If you're really proactive you can contact your board of ed and ask to talk to the human resources person who determines which applicants are qualified for what. Reason being, degrees don't really matter when you go into teaching. What classes you've had are the only thing that matter. For instance. I have a degree in biology, but I can also teach chemistry (because you only need Chem 101, 102, Organic chem I and II, and biochem. But that's where I am, it might be different where you are. Also, I qualify to teach physics because I have astronomy, physics 101 102, and calc.
What will DEFINITELY get you a job is physics. Everyone is hurting for physics teachers.
I would recommend you go with the degree you WANT to study, then take extra electives to supplement ( I took geology and astronomy classes to supplement my biology degree so I could qualify to teach general science classes too)
It really does just depend on what state you plan on teaching in.
