It depends on the publisher(s) of the textbooks. Many publishers have an online textbook/ online student edition option that you as a student can purchase separately directly from the publisher--and a lot of schools purchase online access cards (that have codes specific to that kid & year) for the textbooks, but when dealing with thousands of kids, it can get pricey for schools to buy that for all kids.

You should look on your books and Google the publishers--even look inside the book to see if in the first several pages they discuss an interactive site for students to have extra resources. Many books have these, complete with practice quizzes.

Public online high schools are generally overseen by the Department of Education in each state. How an online high school would work would depend on the rules of the state in which the school is located. Some states do offer the option of online high school, while others do not. For example, Pennsylvania has 11 public charter schools. Each of these schools will vary somewhat in how they offer curriculum or classes but all 11 must meet the educational guidelines set by the state.

There are also some private online high schools. These high schools will charge tuition. Some charge by course, others charge for a student to enroll for a whole year's courses. These high schools are not as closely monitored as the public high schools and there will be variances in the quality of their educational delivery and the potential for illegitimate schools to exist.

Instead of trying to find a condensed version of the textbook, you should probably ask your teacher for a tutor or extra help. Trust me, reducing the thickness of the book probably won't help.
