Ivan Said:Is it safe for a black and white couple to live in cape town, south Africa?
We Answered:Hi Nikonan - I am a white American that has lived in Cape Town for 4 years. For two of the years I had a girlfriend that was black. We never experienced any problems concerning discrimination or harrasment. Her aunt and uncle whom she lived with were a mixed white and black couple and they never told me of any particularly bad experiences. They also had a mixed race daughter, and a black African son. There are many mixed race people in Cape Town, known here as 'coloured,' as a matter of fact, they are the majority here.
Ignore the people who only post negative things about South Africa such as one particular poster above. Unfortunately, there are still many racist people here who feel good about themselves by highlighting the problems of a democratic South Africa, rather than acknowledging both the good and the bad and working to make things better.
I have loved the 4 years that I have spent here. Cape Town is an amazing city. Feel free to email me and I can give you more detail on some of your questions. Click on my username and there should be a link there to send me an email.
Mabel Said:Work in the USA for 17yr old?
We Answered:I'm 17 too (living in the U.S.), and the only places I was able to get jobs were at small stores or at a fast food restaurant.
Need to be 18+ to work at companies or factories.

Brian Said:High Schools for Girls in Cape Town, South Africa?
We Answered:I would go for St Cyprians. Although I am comparing them from what I know about them 30 years ago, St Cyprians was the school to form people for all walks in life. And as Commodore mentioned, all girls and private is better.
Joshua Said:What can i expect to pay for private schools in cape town? Both primary and high school?
We Answered:An elite private High School will cost around R100000 per annum.
The run of the mill private high school would cost around R35000 per year.
A top state aided school(of similar standard to a private school and often having better grounds) will cost around R10000 per year.
Primary schools will be slightly less in each category.
Jeanne Said:University of Cape Town medical school?
We Answered:Sorry, I do not have all the answers for you, but I can address item 3. You will have little difficulty doing a residency in any British Commonwealth nation, but the US residency programs will require you to jump through the ECFMG exam, which can be difficult for some. If I were in your position, I would seek admission to a medical school in some other Commonwealth nation, preferably Britain or Australia. The degree will have greater status outside the Commonwealth. The most important thing you should consider is where you want to live and practice. If you want to live and practice (for the next thirty or forty years...) in the US, get into a medical school there at the front end. It will make things easier. If you want to live and practice in South Africa, go to medical school there. If you want to live and practice inn Greece, ... you get the idea. There are a lot of hassles associated with licensure when you move from one country to another once you finish school. Some of the hurdles are solved with money, but a lot of them require the investment of a lot of personal time and energy. Good luck!
Shannon Said:What to pack going to CAPE TOWN SOUTH AFRICA FOR A GUY (SAMPLE LIST)?
We Answered:You don't say what time of year you are going. Now is a good time, its the end of summer and cooling.
They are very casual in the Cape, so just dress casual, shorts or jeans and t-shirts, long sleeve sweat shirt for cooler evenings. Don't forget swimwear.
If you forget anything, there's plenty of shops.
Don't forget to try the wine there. It is excellent and there's no stupid 21 year old rule :)
