Do Teachers Re-Write History They Do Not Know?We Answered:
I think there's a lot of truth to what you're saying, but it's not just US teachers who do this (and let's set the PC aside for a moment).Take the Japanese--after WW II, Japanese school textbooks (and teachers) said that Japan participated in the war because of its lack of needed natural resources [like, it couldn't purchase needed goods from foriegn countries?]
Take Germany after WW II. The Germans underwent collective amnesia. They went into denial about the persecution of the Jews. They were even electing former SS into office. Many said, "We had no idea what was going on, that there were death camps." But many Germans did know what was going on and took part in it or looked the other way.
Regarding politics and the Bush administration? Students have told me that their civics and history teachers did not discuss the issues that were so pertinent to our country, such as the invasion of Iraq, or 'no WMD found' (what ever happened to "Current Events" which was part of my HS education?) I suspect they were concerned about angering students and parents who did not want to look at the facts. Or perhaps the teachers had political biases of their own, better left unsaid...
So I think you hit the nail on the head. Political correctness rules.

What is the current lesson plan model being used in teaching? We Answered:
The current trend right now is something called "Understanding By Design" which goes along nicely with standards based education. This entails enduring understandings, essential questions and creating performance tasks. A large focus is on rigor for all students where authentic intellectual work is created by all students.Caroline Said:

I need to find lesson plans for high-school(9-12) education in US?We Answered:
Are you looking for lesson plans or standards? They're two totally different things. Lesson plans are activities and lessons that take place in a classroom from day to day. Teachers write them themselves. Standards are what the teachers are mandated to cover by the state government. It differs from state to state, so you're going to have to specify.Darryl Said:
Can you suggest killer websites for lesson plans dealing with WW II?We Answered:
First, "your kids" are called "students," unless you are their parent. Teachers are professionals and should act professional.Pediatricians do not call their patients--"their kids."
Next, as a first year teacher, my advice is to learn the curriculum--become a true expert.
Your college classes only serve as a foundation, focus on learning the material.
When YOU learn the curriculum, "WWII from Hitler in 1933 through the end" some could argue WWII is still being fought on some levels (Israel and Palestine) and others would argue it was never fought (Iran denies Holocaust ever happened), you may find that you need to establish a historical foundation first; thus, world events are not isolated events.
As a first year history teacher, I doubt you could actually "lecture your heart out"--maybe regurgitate what you read in books or saw on TV--but not lecture.
Again, maybe you should use the textbook and learn the material before you venture out and present some wikipedia website or PEARL HARBOR the movie starring Ben Affleck as fact!
Sorry for being the cynic; however, "your kids" need a professional teacher not a "cool friend."
