How to organize my high school, homeschool? Please help!?

We Answered:

There are lots of formats to use to get organized. The first place I would suggest is to consider what requirements you still need to fulfill if you plan to attend college. www.hslda.org has a brochure online that you can download and use as a guide for what academics you need to achieve. Once you narrow down what you need to take as far as courses, then you will want to start considering curriculum. There are text books, online courses, and all kinds of formats for you to use for taking a course that best fits your learning style. The Well-Trained Mind book has some excellent practical ways to organize notebooks and suggested curriculum. If you use online courses they usually keep track of your grades and time as well as reminders as to what is due at what time. Some Virtual Academies require a certain amount of time so that you will accomplish the course in the required time.
Another strong suggestion is to check into co-ops and enrichment classes that are offered in your local area which will help you keep organized and accomplish your studies. www.hslda.org will have a list of support groups in your area to contact so you can research what is available to you. Another thought is to check into a local college to see if you can take some college courses and get dual credit. I have known students who were able to graduate from high school with an associate's degree at the same time! Hope this gets you going.

What is the best way to put together a homeschool high school transcript?

We Answered:

There are so many options available! I know people who made transcripts with special software and people who made them on their Microsoft Office software.
Try to find a template in a book about Homeschool transcripts. That's what I did.
There are tons of Homeschool transcript resources. I'm sure that HSLDA's website could give you some helpful advice as well.
Good luck!

I'd like to homeschool my high school boy, where can I start?

We Answered:

I think it is a great idea but then... I am a home school teacher/mom.
Home school will eliminate excuses. You will know the assignments and you will know if they have been done correctly. You will know that the material was explained. You will know if he has a full work-load or if you need to ease up and give him more time. Hopefully, he will realize that this is his education. He can 'run with it' or dig his heels in and resist. He will be the one that will prosper or suffer from his choices.
When can you start? Right now.
Legally? Check below for your state's laws.

Is it legal to finish Homeschool high school in one year?

We Answered:

I live in Texas and homeschooling is considered a private school. By law there no set amount of days a year or set amount of time a day that you have to be in school. You can homeschool at your own pace and if your parents feel that you meet the standard of a graduate then yes you can. Private schoolers are also not required to test but can if they choose to. Private school also does not have to take accredited classes or do accredited work and it does not have to be approved by anyone. Like I said I live in Texas though. If you will search online you should be able to find a homeschool support group in your area that will gladly help you get all your answers for your state. Most homeschoolers love to help people get out of the public school system. I plan to start homeschooling my kids soon. Good luck with it and if you need me to help you research anything just let me know,my e-mail is sbourland@excite.com I am not sure if I am supposed to put that there but I will find out.
