How To Become A High School Teacher
Theresa Said:
How to become high school teacher? We Answered:
There are two routes you can take, depending on time and money:1. The easiest way is to get your B.A. and then enter into a post-baccalaureate teacher certification program which will get you through your pedagogy and content exams as quickly as possible and into a student teaching practicum position. These are not usually expensive and are quick, so you could be a certified teacher in a year, and then go for your Master's whenever you want.
2. The longer route is to double major and become certified through the education major, upon graduation you'll be state certified and you'll already have the student teaching experience as its part of any education program.
The graduate courses in education don't really teach you any hands-on experience as most of them are theoretical and environmental in nature, the best hands-on experience you can get is being in the classroom. Most of the books I used in my education classes were worthless and did little to prepare me for what life in the classroom would really be like.
I would also suggest that you get a Master's in a content area, such as English. A MA in education is good for a career teacher, but an MA in a content area such as English you are essentially a specialist, which means you're more qualified and can also teach at the college level as an adjunct.

How does one become a high school teacher? I have a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, but not Education.?We Answered:
You just pass the subject test for what you want to teach. No, you don't need another degree in education.Billy Said:
How can I become a high school teacher? We Answered:
You will need a college degree and certification in education to become a teacher. Plan on going for a masters eventually as more and more school districts are requiring that level of education for their teachers.Call your local school board to see what their qualifications are for high school teachers (or see your guidance counselor) and that should give you a good idea of what you need to do.

How do I become a high school teacher if I didn't take education classes? We Answered:
Yes...that will vary depending on your state. But in many states, once you have your Bachelor's degree, then you can enter into an "Alternative Certification" track or program. Usually, once you do this, you can begin teaching pretty quickly. Sometimes, they'll even put you in the classroom, and THEN provide you with some coursework to get you certified within that first year.In my opinion, if you were going to jump into teaching high school without any education courses, you would at LEAST want to read a book on classroom management...If you don't have some strategies for dealing with potential behavior issues, those high schoolers will walk all over you!
Good luck!

What College Courses Would I Need To Take To Become A High School Teacher/Coach?We Answered:
If you want to be a teacher in a public school you will need to complete a group of education courses in college. These will expose you to the field of teaching, instruct you in pedagogy, and the like. These courses are typically built into a major or minor, which would provide the basics needed to be licensed to teach.
