In this day in age, just a high school diploma won't get anyone very far. For the occasional genius who comes up with some kind of new technology or the 20 year old big wig there is some explanation as to why they are successful. Many employers are looking for a person who has the "qualifications" and "training" in the field which they are applying. It is a known fact that people with college degrees make more money annually than those who do not, regardless if they have the same exact position within a company or not. Companies within the past 10-15 years have been looking more and more for people with more qualifications as far as education goes then ever before. In order to go straight from high school to a corporate position these days is highly unlikely, and to work your way up to that point would probably take up until retirement (as sad as that is to say).
