You would have to emancipate, or have a family court judge authorize the change, probably.

That said, speak to a counselor at your school. I'm certain that this has happened before and there may be school or district specific programs that will speed the process. (In our local district, the school can keep you registered and the online program sends over the grades...)

At 14 you are old enough to homeschool yourself.. I'd say that would be your best bet. Find a curriculum you like and stick to it for the semester. Although if you are ill for one semester only and know this is how long you will be off for your high school should be providing work for you to keep you up to date.. And if the illness is not something that will affect you once you start college, it should make no difference that you were ill for this time period. Some places might want confirmation from the school in the form of copies of doctors certificates but otherwise you should be fine.

You are entitled to local, state and federal education funding as a public school student. That funding either goes to the local public school you attend or the virtual school you are enrolled in.

you can't double up on the funding, so you have to make a choice.
