Online Homeschooling For High School

Gordon Said:

High School Alternatives (homeschooling, online schools, etc)?

We Answered:

You could look into GED programs, most employers say you must have a high school diploma or an equivalent, a GED is the equivalent. I'm not going to lie tho, taking the GED is harder than high school.

Kathy Said:

online homeschooling?! (high school)?

We Answered:

Depends on your state, but there is an online school called connections academy, completely legit and an amazing school. Teachers are always there for you, you can't cheat, and they have projects and deadline portfolios for you to complete. (it is tough at first but you get into the rythm). I used to do it for awhile, about 4 years, much better then public school you get a lot more independant from it. Just look up connections academy (I know cheesy name) and read it over its a good school and they have a lot of support for being an online school.

Does anyone know a good homeschooling online program for high school?

We Answered:

Here in California there are quite a few...the most popular is called CAVA (California Virtual Academy) I'm thinking of enrolling my daughter next year as I've heard really good things from parents that have children in it.

What I suggest is that you get your list of schools in your area, then find out if they have meetings/get togethers. Go to one and ask them how they like it...also ask if there are things they don't like about it.

Good Luck!

Free online homeschooling for high school students?

We Answered:

Usually the free ones are free because they are a version of public school. For example, Florida Virtual School http://www.flvs.net is free to residents of Florida because it is run by the Florida Dept. of Education as an alternate version of public school. (FLVS is available to those outside of the state, but then tuition is required.)

So, you'll have to check and see if your state has some version of virtual school that's supported by the taxpayers. A local highschool guidance counselor should be able to tell you if your state has such an option.

Otherwise, there are other methods of homeschooling. You could study at home, on your own, using books and materials that you and your family choose. Then document the learning done to get credit. "And What About College? How homeschooling leads to admissions to the best colleges and universities" by Cafi Cohen is a great resource on how to document your learning to get into college--check your local library for a copy of it.
