Private High School

Fernando Said:

What do you benefit from going to a private high school?

We Answered:

Please, PLEASE, for the love of God go to private school.

I had the same decision when I was your age and I chose public high school. Now I'm pretty much screwed lol.
It's weird to think how such minor decision could have such a big impact on your life, but it's true.

I got pretty good grades in public high school but to colleges, an A from a public high school is still like a B from a better private school. Ivy league schools don't accept a lot of students from public schools and so I couldn't get into the university I wanted to go, despite my good grades and extracurricular activities.

A sub par high school leads to sub par college and that leads to....that's right...sub par jobs.

I had to really struggle to keep my grades up in public school. The teachers are underpaid and disgruntled, so most don't really care if you get the material or not. Private school teachers are better paid and are more closely monitored - their employers expect them to deliver A students.

Sure I got to wear regular clothes, but now it really doesn't seem so important. You'll have the rest of your life after school to make a fashion statement - stick with the uniform for now.

Transferring from a private high school to a public high school?

We Answered:

just make some calls and ask the schools. most of the credits should transfer, if not all. most public schools accept private school credits. really, as long as you have earned enough credits to graduate in florida, you should be fine along those lines.

Javier Said:

What civil liberties can a Private high-school not even violate?

We Answered:

Let's see. They can control free speech, religious speech, the official school paper (but not a student newspaper created off-campus and distributed off-campus; it could be confiscated on-campus though), guns, and search and seizure with or without cause. The school probably can't invade your right to privacy (i.e. watch you go to the bathroom). The school would have to follow its written policies (due process and contract law). The criminal rights and jury rights wouldn't apply. The school could probably even discriminate based on religion, though doing so might threaten non-profit status, if it's non-profit. If your state prohibits corporal punishment, they might not be allowed to hit you.

Other than what I mentioned above, I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Who knows, though? The school might even try to throw its weight around about that, too, and I'm not sure about if they would be allowed to under your state's laws.

Question regarding Private High School to Public High school transfer?

We Answered:

They will so that you have a full transcript when you go to college I believe. It's also used to place you in classes appropriate for your level. That's basically it, I believe, schools need to keep record of their students, but their not going to look at it and be like, I don't want this kid in the school.
Have fun in a public high school!

What is a good private high school in or near Berkeley California?

We Answered:

Look here: http://www.privateschoolreview.com/count…

From there you can check out the schools' websites. Look for information on their academics, AP classes & scores, SAT scores, National Merit, College Matriculation, etc and you'll figure out which schools are *good*.
