Norma Said:
what are the top the high school's in toronto, including private school? We Answered:
For girls: HavergalFor guys: Upper Canada College
Public: North Toronto Collegiate (However, you can't get in unless you live in the catchment)
For Havergal and Upper Canada, you should have A's; 1 or 2 B's will be acceptable. However, admission is competitive: You shouldn't rely on just your GPA (it doesn't count for all that much anymore). You should have lots of extra-curriculars (like sports, clubs, basically stuff you do after school) and score high on your SSATs/ISEE/ whichever entrance exam they give you.
For Harvard.. I know of someone who got in Yale with a 3.4 GPA but they went to a top prep school and they were hooked (URM). For Harvard, try to have an unweighted GPA of 3.8 or over, and definitely have spectacular awards and extra-curriculars. Harvard does not accept people just based on grades, extra-currics and SATs and essays and interview are worth a lot more. Try to have prestigious regional/national awards, varied, relatively unique extra-currics that you've been dedicated to for a long time, score 2200+ on your SATs, score very high on your ACT (34+), and write unique essays that draw the reader in. Just GPA doesn't get you into Harvard!
Good luck!

CAN I GET INTO UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO IF I TAKE PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOL COURSES?We Answered:
i do believe that universities look at students fairly. I have friends who did poorly so they went to private school and raised their marks. The did end up getting accepted into many universities. I think the rumour that people from private schools aren't taken seriously is due to the fact that some people say they are only 'paying' for their marks. The only downside when going to university with private school education is not the lowered chance of acceptance, but that they have a harder time adjusting to university life. Not to scare you, but just keep in mind that the work load doubles, and if you are used to workign one to one, all this work might be difficult. Also learning in a large room with many students will feel different, and maybe a bit harder since you can't ask many questions. With self- motivation though, i'm sure you 'll do well- Good Luck!Bobby Said:
