There are a lot of different kinds of scholarships that vary greatly in their amount. Also, you can get scholarships in a lot of different ways (academics, athletics, clubs & organizations, etc.).

To answer your question, I don't think there's really any sort of meaningful average. It depends on the individual student and what he or she excels at.

Personally, I got an academic scholarship that paid my tuition only. I also got a scholarship that was a one time payment of $250. I also knew people who got bigger scholarships than I did and some who got several small scholarships that added up to a pretty good amount.

If you're looking into scholarships yourself, I would say apply for everything you can and hope for the best. You never know what you might end up with.

Tips:

1) Don't only try fastweb but also try scholarships locally. When Christmas break has ended, go to your high school college and career center and see what scholarships are offered for students within your specific location.

2) Scholarships.com, Scholarshipexperts.com, petersons.com - there's many more. I suggest you go to Google and search "Scholarships."

3) Also, when going to google do specific searches - For example, if you live in Oregon - you could search "Scholarship List Oregon" for scholarship lists provided by high schools in Oregon.

4) Create an excel with a list of all the scholarships you plan to apply for. Sort them by months.
