Indian blanket or indian paintbrush might be a couple choices for wildflowers. Both don't mind heat and are fairly low maintenance. Succulents are always an option (no thorn varieties given the kids of course). Check the following links for information. The first two are for plant ideas, the last for a few books that may help.You can use large planters or pots on the blacktopped areas. You would probbably need to keep a close eye on the plants because of the heat coming back off the blacktop though.

This is probably more information than you are looking for but here goes -

I assume you know about the ongoing north side vs south side rivalry in Chicago. I am from the north side and my wife is from the south side. My wife would love to move to the south side but to be perfectly frank I do not like the south side one bit, so I am biased. I would not send my child to any Chicago public school, this includes elementary and high school (well a couple magnet high schools are good). If you are talking about Chicago public schools I would stay away from all of them. A couple Catholic schools on the southwest side/suburbs are OK. Brother Rice and Marist are fine. There are other private schools in Chicago which are good, the ones I know of include Kenwood Academy and Hyde Park Academey, there may be others. As far as suburbs go, good schools include Stagg High School in Palos Heights and Sandburg High School in Orland Park. Other than those, there are not many good schools on the south side.

Yes, I am very opinionated and am biased against the south side.

When you decide on a custody lawyer be prepared for lots questions about previous addresses, employment, child support, doctor names, previous education, basically try to be prepared to answer any thing in custody investigation. As for the school, I have referred this to my husband who has been in FWISD employment 20 yrs and knows lots things about most schools I would not know. Six weeks and semister begins Jan 20.
