Melinda Said:

Does anyone know of any scholarship summer programs for HS students to travel overseas?

We Answered:

AFS grants scholarships to top students, so contact them and see if you qualify. Here is a list of other study abroad agencies that may also offer scholarships:

Summer programs for high school?

We Answered:

You should look into taking some college classes. UCLA has a summer program for high school students -

It's a wonderful opportunity to earn college credit, and it shows colleges that you're a serious student.

You may want to check out programs offered through other universities. I believe most UCs have a similar program. I enrolled in a four-week marine biology course at UCSD the summer before my senior year. I lived on campus in the dorms, made new friends, learned to scuba dive, and had lots of fun. I certainly recommend it.

Also, you can take college courses during your senior year in the evenings at a community college. It boosts your GPA because the points are earned similar to a AP class and you are guaranteed to get college credit. I actually started my freshman year as a sophomore because I earned so many credits. Just be sure that it's a right fit for you, because it is important that you do well and not overwhelm yourself.

Volunteer Abroad for high school students?

I suggest that you contact your church's mission. Teens will have to raise the money for transportation, room and board. Hope this helps.

What is an inexpensive way to volunteer aboard for a high school student?

We Answered:

I'm not sure if it's available to high shcool students, but my US teacher went to South Korea to teach English there after college for two years. He was a part of the Fulbright Scholarship program, a federally funded youth ambassador kind of thing where they send Americans to go work/teach in other countries.

Kind of like the Peace Corps. Speaking of which, you could join the Peace Corps.

Does anyone know of any fellowship or scholarship summer programs for HS students to travel overseas?

We Answered:

Visit this site. It has some stuff, but if you want more stuff, you should be a little more specific, such as places you'd want to see, how far you'd want to travel, how you'd want to get there, etc...

High school volunteer summer trips abroad?

We Answered:

the scholarships are hard to come by as most of the organizations are not for profit, but there are affordable organizations out there that can fit your needs like http://www.volunteercapitalcentre.org which also give you advice on how to fund raise for your volunteer abroad trip

Here is a link to a lot of organizations that were started by kids, and many focus on poverty in other countries and especially helping other kids. Good luck and it's great that you have so much interest in community service at such a young age!
