I don't know anything about the Iowa program, but Interlochen is fantastic. Many of the summer creative writing faculty members teach at the college level during the school year. The Creative Writing program at Interlochen is housed in a new building on campus called The Writing House, which is the first and only facility in the country designed specifically for high school writers.

One cool thing about Interlochen is that there are over 2,000 students there in the summer studying music, film, visual arts, theatre, dance, etc. so there's a lot creative, artsy people around, and many opportunities to attend performances and exhibitions

Habitat for Humanities, he has to go to New Orleans for the summer.
It is so much nicer than rehab. because he meets someone new down there, someone who has lost everything but is still helping and a true sincere person.
