Virtual High Schools

Cynthia Said:

Do you think distance learning and virtual schools will replace traditional high schools?

We Answered:

I can't seem to motivate myself unless there's a real, and good, teacher actually teaching. Do schools do that online? I haven't seen it. I've always been required to get dressed and drive to a classroom. (A waste of LOTS of time, LOTS of gas money, LOTS of land and building materials, and congestion to the roads).

I hope that does happen, SOON! I want to go back for my B.S.

I suppose labs and sports will still require leaving the house, as it should, although, music could still be done from home.

EDIT:

Oh God no, real teachers are needed, although, what if they are replaced by a computerized/automated teacher? I mean, I have a program that reads what's on my computer screen outloud, but that's not like a real teacher.

I hope real teachers are never replaced because I just don't think that's possible... What if I have a question to side track the lesson? lol

Anyhow, they'll always need people to write the lessons/material, but aren't those people like "beyond" teaching? Also, they'll still need coaches, someone to supervise the labs, and perhaps even guidance counselors. No?

What are the best Online American Virtual High-schools?

We Answered:

It depends a lot upon the student, if you are disciplined and have an active social life it can be amazing. If not you may find you don't have the motivation or it cuts into your social life. There's more about it here:

The Morningstar Academy, and other Virtual High Schools.?

We Answered:

I'm fifteen and a Junior - I've done a year and a half total in Richard Mckenna, an online high school, and am currently enrolled in IDVA, another online high school.

I find it's quite a bit easier than regular homeschooling or public school, both of which I've tried. With online school your assignments are 'set in stone,' which isn't something you get quite as much with homeschooling, and they're also much faster to complete, which isn't something you get in public school. You can work ahead and sort through information quickly, and check previous assignments to review new elements.
It's also much easier to work on your own time. You read through the instructions, skip the parts that are unnecessary or apply to other people, and then immediately get to work writing or researching - both things done on the computer. It's extremely convenient and it eliminates the time it takes for your teacher to explain, re-explain, shush the class clowns, pass out the paperwork, etc.

But there are negative aspects as well. If there is a technical problem you can easily fall behind. Depending on which system you're using, it might take a while to figure it out. There might be aspects of the school program that you don't understand or that you figure out when it's too late. Also, on the computer you can easily get distracted by games or friends.

But overall I would say the good greatly outweighs the bad, and I would recommend it as the best form of education.

minnesota virtual high schools?

We Answered:

Those are going to be the best.

But it's best to go to a school, i tired internet schooling it sucked.

the best option if the reason you are not attending school in person is related to class size, violence or w/e and not illness. i suggest a charter school. if your smart you can graduate in a matter of months and get a real high school diploma and not a GeD
