Writing an essay for an application into high school, first paragraph is done..look over it please?

We Answered:

i really liked your essay all of it except the last sentence. it didnt make sense because of your word choice. maybe you should put, "There is nothing wrong with my school in general but for myself I need a better school, one in which I can obtain a higher level of learning a place that can fit my needs."
that would be a good closing sentence for u

Hector Said:

Is there an episode of the Twilight Zone that involves a high school or any kind of school?

We Answered:

I found one involving a school...but I think it might be disturbing to your students. It's about a teacher who sees a light emanating from one of her student's faces, and she later finds out that that light is a signal that the person's going to die. She starts seeing the lights all over kids in the school.

Since it's for a writing class, how about instead the episode called "Time Enough At Last" from episode 8 of the 1959 season? In that episode a bookworm yearns for more time to read and then a nuclear holocaust leaves him alone in the world with plenty of time to read....then he shatters his glasses. Poor guy. I cringe just thinking about the episode.

Anyway, I thought this might make for an interesting writing assignment because it explores a number of social issues, including anti-intellectualism, "the grass is greener" syndrome, the dangers of reliance upon technology, and the difference between aloneness and loneliness. Just a suggestion.

what's a good source of daily writing prompts?

We Answered:

On www.writing.com. There are many contests and prompts, you can even post into your own online portfolio. The membership free, but they do have paid subscriptions too.

I found it to be a wonderful writing community for writers that are just starting out. At least check it out and see what you think.

Good luck!

Ideas for how to start a high school application prompt?

We Answered:

What I find that helps me is to just jot down some ideas for an opening paragraph, get the main topics I want to write about and start writing the body of the paper. I am not the type of person who can just whip out a nice intro to a paper. Once you write most of the paper, you can go back to the intro and formulate/amend your thesis statement and any pre-thesis information you find interesting. That way, your paper will say what you want it to and your introduction will cohere with the body of the paper.

Good Luck.
