Edwin Said:

What are some types of assistive technology (either low or high tech)for students with learning disabilities?

We Answered:

There are many different types to choose from depending on the type of student you are teaching, but here are a few that I use with my students (with Autism):

1. Dynavox
2. Dynavox V
3. Springboard
4. Pathfinder

Regina Said:

What are the best recommendations for assistive technology?

We Answered:

A lot of these suggestions are dependent on the age of the student but here are some strategies I've used.

Low Tech:
- special pencil grips for fine motor control
- sticky notes for separate ideas, to be grouped and sequenced later.

Mid Tech:
- tape recorder
- portable keyboards

High Tech:
- word prediction software: WordQ - great for grades 4-6+, and has a speech recognition addition (SpeakQ)
