Children Learning Games

Michele Said:

How do I keep my children learning?

We Answered:

my son is five and over the summer and winter breaks his teacher gave us alot of ideals of our own.

Cut out shapes of different colors with construction paper, then put them in a pile and have him show you or you ask him to pull out a certain color, shape or size. if you do them in different sizes this helps to for more questions.

Another ideal is to get some fake money and count in groups or colors or cents. it all really depends on what exactly type of learning you are looking for to teach him/her. but i have many ideals. Im a stay at home mom and recently quit my job to be home with my kids. if you need more ideals i will be here. hope this helps ..good luck.

The importance of children learning how to read and computers, electronic games ?

We Answered:

I do agree that technology is lowering literacy but I strongly disagree that it makes reading less important.
The rich people read books and get smarter.
I grew up an avid reader and thanks to that, I do not have time to be bored.

Judith Said:

Do you think that all these learning games for children are going to turn them into lazy couch potatoes?

We Answered:

I agree. Kids need to have parent interaction but also just time to play with blocks or other things that require actual intelligence and creativity instead of rote memorization. My daughter learned the ABCs when she wanted to mainly by asking us questions about what different letters were. We never had to sit down and "teach" it to her (and she's not even three yet) but she got it from us in bits and pieces. But I don't think learning the ABC's is an indication of intelligence so much as just ability to memorize. What kids need to develop intelligence is not just raw facts, but abilities like figuring out how to make a block tower that doesn't fall over (or that does fall over) or how to draw and things like that. If you're not going to have enough time to read to your kids, don't have kids.
