Different Learning Styles
Gene Said:
how to account for different learning styles? We Answered:
I make sure that the activities that the kids participate in use all three. For example, in a reading lesson, I might have them read about an event, talk about what they have read, and then move pieces of paper with events written on them into the right order. I might have them act out a favorite part of the story instead of writing it.I always tell them what they need to do as well as write what they need to do on the board.
Most of us have 2 learning styles that are stronger than the third (I'm mostly visual, with kinestthetic second, I'm hopeless with information that I only hear.
I try to make sure that all my units involve hands on activities as well as reading and talking.
I hope that helps.

How would you address different ability levels and different learning styles? We Answered:
I don't agree that it can't be done even with NCLB. Differentiated lessons just take some planning and flexibility. In my class of 36 students I have 6 Gifted students, and 9 Newcomers (limited - no English) Does everyone learn the same thing at the same time...impossible, I modify work for my EL's, I preteach vocabulary and content for them. I challenge my gifted students with extension activities. I can be done, but like everything it takes a little extra thought, planning and time.Shannon Said:
What are different learning styles and strategies regarding teaching mathematics? We Answered:
Click on this link for the eight learning styles that we are aware of. What I do when I'm teaching is to construct a plan for a subject that includes activities from each of these learning styles.http://www.ldrc.ca/projects/miinventory/…

Do seagulls have a different learning styles? We Answered:
Here are some links on behaviour of gulls.http://psychology.exeter.ac.uk/lundy/her…
I think you would have to find research experiments where gulls were marked in some way so that the researches could identify individuals.
There are lots of studies on Gull behavior.
Google for Tinbergen who was a scientist who wrote papers on gull behavior.

How do I recognise different learning styles of my students? We Answered:
Practice multiple learning styles with them. Use every method you can think of, then determine which works best for each student. Asking the student is silly because nobody really knows until they try each technique.*edit* Lisa, there are far more than 4 learning styles. Visual, Auditory, Hands on/Project based, Rote skills and numerous others can be added to your list. When trying to find the best skills for each learner to use, it's important not to think of the number of ways tried but to continue searching until the BEST method for THAT STUDENT has been found no matter how many methods have been tried.

Why is a complete knowledge AND understanding of different learning styles to crucial effect student instructi? We Answered:
Everyone learns in a different way. Some can read and learn, while some must learn hands-on, or with visual aids, or must have the lesson explained orally. Some even need a combination of all.Simply, if you only know one style of teaching (ie: reading aloud, from the text) then you only reach the students, who learn in that manner. If you utilize different methods of teaching the same lesson, you will reach more of your students. You of course have to understand the methods in order to use them.
