How should I go about learning basic engineering at home?

We Answered:

I have been reading books and researching on the internet, that might be the best way, you might want to use lectures if you've got the time.

Where abouts are you? In London they have some great adult learning centres..City Lit being one of them (you should Google them and see if there are any near you)

Many colleges and adult education centres have evening courses, afternoon courses or part time day courses.

Many also have huge concessions for those on benefits! For example a 6 week course I wanted to do, was spread out by doing it once a week on a Monday evening and only cost £25 where the normal price would be £100!

There are many different courses you can do and many of them are based part time evenings. Many also have creche facilities or groups for the kids while you study!
May be worth looking into as the Open university can be very very expensive and takes time if your only doing it part time on your own (years in fact for some people)

Your local college might be a good place to start!=0&O=0.69

Take an online course. I took one and used my baby sister as the patient. She looked like a pin cushion. She now has a morbid fear of needles but I got my license!

How do I know if i'm learning enough in home schooling?

We Answered:

Maybe you could supplement your online courses with trips to the public library (if you finish a class before the 185 days is up). There you could read books about the same subjects or you could read classic literature. (Reading the classics should be a part of your high school English class.)

Your question about whether you are learning enough is a hard one to answer. How would you know if you are learning enough in public school? There are students who "graduate" from public school and cannot even read. Also, there are students who make good grades just because they are good at memorizing answers for a test, but they haven't really grasped the concepts or learned a thing!

One thing you could do is go to the college board's site and take a practice SAT test. If you do well on that -- or on the actual SAT -- then you know you have learned enough about the basics...........which is reading, grammar, writing, and math. (Of course, that won't include things like chemistry, history, etc.)

whats the best free course to learn french at home?

We Answered:

I'd say to get a friend from a chatroom who understands basic english and work together. Theres plenty of people wanting to learn english so perhaps you could speak using msn or something and learn gradually - eventually using the phone etc.

If not.. use the tapes and books n stuff - hire from a library - free bt helpful.

Could even take a part time college course.
