Law Degree Distance Learning

Gloria Said:

Any paralegal's out there educated by a nationally accredited school?

We Answered:

When I first worked as a paralegal, I only had a certificate from a nationally accredited school. I barely had any work experience but found an attorney who gave me a chance.

After a couple of years I decided that I should further my education. Not only for the benefits of becoming more knowledgable, but also for my ego, so-to-speak.

I am currently enrolled in a school that is regionally accredited and approved by the American Bar Association (ABA).

In my honest opinion, I think you'll have no problems in landing a job with a nationally accredited degree. In fact, most employers only care about (1) the fact that you have a degree; and (2) any relevant work experience (or training).

I learned how to conduct legal research via distance education (at the beginning). Legal research and writing was the most difficult course I took, but I seriously put a lot of effort into it and learned it.

Since your education is accredited and most likely recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), it should open up a lot of doors for you.

You didn't waste your money! In fact, if you can finish two years of school work (associate degree) on your own time, then you definitely have the dedication and eagerness it takes to work directly with clients.

Besides, a lot of employers require at least an associate degree in any field before they would even talk to you for other types of jobs.

A background in legal studies will take you far! Keep up the good work and forever strive towards your goals.

3 year LLB in india?

We Answered:

Well, According to the latest Bar Council guidelines, those who obtain their law degrees through correspondence are not permitted to practise law as a profession. There is no barrier to using it for self-defence in court, though. This has effectively shut down all distance education law programs for want of takers, which is why you won't find any from reputed law schools, sorry.

However, Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu offers two year Bachelor of General Law, Bachelor of Academic Law for graduates and three year Bachelor of Business Law programs through correspondence. I'm not sure you ll be permitted to enroll with the Bar Council and practise law with these degrees.

How would I go about getting into this master's program?

We Answered:

Never give up the quest for education!!! You should contact them and see if enrolling in another university program to prove you are capable of the required GPA would make a difference. Otherwise, find a new program and pay the price of not being as diligent in your studies previously.
