Vickie Said:

Whats the quickest way to learn a british accent for a play?

We Answered:

Watch and most importantly listen to British movies and videos. Then try to imitate the accents until you get them right. My Fair Lady is a great one to watch because it is all about accent and pronunciation. Because you are playing the Queen, you don't want a Cockney accent (example:Bert from Mary Poppins or Eliza's accent in the beginning of M.F.L.). Cockney accents are not characteristic of the royals in England. Another movie that you should watch is The Queen, it's full of polished British accents which is what you want. =) Hope that helped.

How to learn the British accent?

We Answered:

Get a dictionary where there is a pronunciation guide which gives the pronunciation in British English. Watch british movies and imitate what you can. Then just practice, practice practice. But before you go about learning accents, slangs or dialects, make sure you brush up on your basic grammar. You should master your English well enough to avoid mistakes such as 'an Chinese' (no offence) before you try speaking with any accent, if not you'll end up sounding so silly.

How can I learn to speak with a British accent?

We Answered:

Watch a bunch of Harry Potter, and copy how the speak.

Just remember, the letter "r" is pretty much silent, unless it is in front of a vowel.

The ending "er" sounds like "ah."

Bertha Said:

can anyone please tell me a software or an online place to learn british accent?

We Answered:

Let me get one thing clear: *****There is no one 'british' accent!!***** There are loads; londener (cockney), estuary english, received pronunciation, geordie, scot, welsh, etc etc etc etc etc.

What I think you may be wanting is what is called 'Received Pronunciation', or more commonly known as 'BBC English' as it is the 'accent' used in the BBC news and other formal TV programmes.

My advice is to watch videos on youtube (or whatever) containing the 'accent' you want (I'm a success story here, I did this for german.) There are also many sites to help, too, for example, check out these results:

How can u learn a British accent?

We Answered:

you simply can't just switch to a British accent as you wish! a. 'cause one doesn't actually exist (not that I know of) b. as the only two people above, who actually knew what they were talking about (the other two were completely clueless, you guess which ones are which), pointed out there are tons of accents in Britain! England itself has got a huge variety! So I guess what I am trying to say is you simply can't! I am really sorry and deeply apologise for my rudeness, but you just can't! The problem with Americans not being able to sound authentic derives from the fact that they tend to sound most of the time way too cocky to be believable or they just put a bunch of accents together and what comes out is nothing but an accent that's just off!
Unlike Americans British people can usually pull off a decent American accent because, unlike us, you have what you call a standard American accent. I am not saying you don't have tons of accents yourselves, I am just saying the difference between one accent and the other is just so subtle that's barely noticeable!
