What does Business English mean to you?In Your Opinion Why Is It Important To Learn About Business English?

We Answered:

As a teacher on the subject of English, and not per se only Business English, it is good to have a background on the terminology associated with any subject if you wish to communicate effectively on that subject for the purposes of public speaking. For example, would you know about "inertia selling:" which is a scheme in marketing which if the client or customer does not respond with a "NO" to an offered advertising gimmick, the answer is taken as "Yes". The form of inertia selling (taking advantage of the lack of decision making by a customer or client) could be in statements such as "if you are interested in the product, please return the "flyer" (advertising pamphlet) within 7 days, and if we do not hear from you, it would mean that you are buying the product. The product is then included in such packages as Credit cards, and the item could be the inclusion of a health insurance or some other.

The second reason is to manage your business more effectively so that you are cluey about the terms used in business so that you are aware of the pitfalls of the language and your ignorance could cause you considerable business losses for example "niche markets" (customers who are geared to buy only your products because they are loyal) or "on approval", the latter being that even a packet of sugar on approval could be returned 3 quarter finished because there is no clause in the bill of sale that the item must be 95% unused before it is returned. Exclusivity clauses which promise the earth and deliver little and exclusionary clauses which if not read, make your purchases liable for even a court case in consumer affairs. You cannot feign ignorance if you are doing a business because they would say it is up to the business person to know what the trade wants and there appears to be nothing today that is a clean business, from taxation to vat issues to customer relations. Get the gen? I hope you do:)..

Read the Financial Times and, whenever you encounter a word or an expression you don't know, look it up in a dictionary or online.

Yolanda Said:

What is the best way to learn business English? Like Writing skills and speaking.?

We Answered:

Come to the country, and immerse yourself in the language and culture. I served a church mission to Germany for 2 years, and we had something called SYL (Speak your language). We were only allowed to speak German to each other (even though we were both Americans), and that forced us to learn to express ourselves in the new language.

Guten Tag!

What is the cheapest college of Business in the US that can take foreign students & help them learn english?

We Answered:

I woud suggest a local community college in whatever town he chooses to stay in. In Chicago, for example, they often offer free ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. After getting a good grip on the language he can continue studyig at the community college, taking business and/or accounting classes. This is probably his cheapest option.

Good luck!
