We Answered:

Before to visit a South America country see a "telenovela".

Pearl Said:

How difficult is it to learn conversational Spanish? And long does it take to become proficient?

We Answered:

In addition, as time allows, consider getting a part time job at a Mexican Restaurant. Like one night a week. If you are emerged in it, then you will learn it quicker. In addition, you will learn the slang and how to speak and comprehend it as opposed to just learning how to read and write. Also, consider watching a Spanish soap. They are every bit as cheesy in Spanish as they are in English, but it gives you context from which you can try to understand what is being said. They are usually on in the evenings. Pick one and watch it a couple of times a week. I don't recommend the news shows, as the talk Really fast. Also, avoid the "funny" shows, as it is hard enough to learn a new language, trying to understand the play on words is very hard. I wish you the best of luck.

Victoria Said:

Where can I learn conversational spanish? What programs should I use if no spanish speakers are nearby?

We Answered:

I'm learning spanish for free using pocasts. If you have iTunes (or download it because it is free), and open iTunes music store and click the link to podcasts. Then click the education link. There you will find hundreds of podcasts which teach Spanish, or French or German or Chinese or Japanese or Greek etc. And the best thing is that they are all free! The only problem you may encounter is that the Spainish language podcasts tend to focus of Spain's Spanish rather than that of Latin America or the Catalan regions. However, I sweear by podcasts and seeing that they are free there is nothing to lose!

Florence Said:

I live in the Kansas City area and want to learn conversational spanish - but how?

We Answered:

1.Watch the news in Spanish. This is a good exercise because you will always have a context. Watch the film as you listen to the story.

2.Watch Spanish-language films. You can read the subtitles and listen at the same time.

3.Eavesdrop. When you hear people speaking in Spanish try to understand what they are saying to each other.

4.Be fearless. When you are in a setting in which you can use your Spanish just do it. Most Spanish-speakers are glad to help and happy you are trying.

5.Look for things written in Spanish in your home (e.g. instructions for appliances) and see how much you understand. This is a good way to learn new vocabulary.
