Which colleges in New York have good English programs?

We Answered:

stony brook has a new school of journalism that you might want to look at. geneseo has a great reputation overall, so it won't hurt to go there. i assume there's an english major that doesn't have to do with education.

if you have the grades, cornell and columbia are in new york. nyu, fordham, binghamton, and new paltz are also options.

Check out the English Language Center at La Guardia Community College. They have relatively low prices and intensive English programs, and it''s close to trains and just a few minutes from midtown Manhattan.

Sheila Said:

I am learning English, if I say?“it usually snows a lot in New york in winter. ”is it right to say that?

We Answered:

Yeah, that's right. You can write the sentence in different forms if you wish to, if you think it sounds better (like, when writing school reports and stuff). For example:
"In Winter, it usually snows a lot in New York"
or
"New York usually snows a lot in Winter".

Where to go if I wanna learn English?

We Answered:

I came to the US seven years ago knowing only the basic English. How I learned was simply by talking to as many people as you can!
No matter what, where or with who. Actually, the more varied, the better.

Your ESL class will help a lot in teaching you the basics in grammar, semantics, etc. But you have to do the rest by talking to people, reading and mostly believe it or not watching tv!
*One of the best things to have is a small Korean-English dictionary always with you. Try to THINK in English, and whenever you come accross a word that you don't know, look it up. Then try to remember it.
*Watch tv, you will learn a lot of English phrases. Keep the radio on. Repeat the words out loud!
*Talk to people.
*Learn 5 new words everyday and practice them.

It is not difficult to learn a language if you really want to learn it, and if you surround yourself with it.

Good luck! :)
