. . . . you can't ever really learn it for free. The best way to learn any language is to put yourself in the middle of it -- go to the country for a year, you'll learn it fast, trust me. I know german fluently. It was my first language as that's all my grandparents spoke. I don't really use it a lot in the US, but occassionally, so I don't remember it all too well and my grandpa has passed on, so there's not much use for it. You can go to waldenbooks/borders/barns and noble and look in the do it yourself section, they have books on learning different languages with really helpful pull outs that you label things with .

You can go on interpals.net. There, you can learn languages in any part of the world and also make friends from other countries. I'm currently learning Italian through it since I don't have any money for Rosetta Stone, and so far I found a really good Italian teacher on it. (my age too!) You also get to learn a lot about the country's culture this way. It's really neat and free too. You just have to sign up for it.
