Patricia Said:

What is the best way to learn to hindi language?

We Answered:

I think that the best way to learn how to speak a foreign language is following a course with a qualified teacher who will teach you the right pronunciation...

Regarding the listening, I suggest you listening a lot of dialogues in that language ( for example, you could watch hindi films or programs or listening to hindi music)

Then if you really want a high level of speaking/listening , you will have to have a stay in a hindi-speaking country...

Jon Said:

Which language is more popular to learn, Hindi or Hebrew?

We Answered:

Hi,

"To each his own" really. And reasons vary.

What culture interests you more? What people would you like to understand/talk to/connect with? Is there a destination in your mind you plan to visit? Do you have friends that speak the language? etc.

As someone suggested, from a Biblical perspective perhaps it's Hebrew. Also important from the viewpoint of Judaism. And of course it's useful if you want to connect with fellow Hebrew speakers and are interested in the tradition or if you've heard hebrew being spoken and find it pretty then its hebrew for you.

Same with Hindi like for instance if you're interested in bollywood movies and its music or you want to connect with hindi speaking people, or you have heard hindi being spoken before and like the language then it should be hindi for you. And of course there are a lot many hindi speakers than there are hebrew speakers.

Same with other Indian languages if you think about them anytime in the future.

Just learn what suits and interests you. There are enough foreign language students learning both languages. But note that not all foreign language students into Indian languages are into hindi. They are into Punjabi , Sanskrit etc. The charm of sanskrit being one of the oldest languages and a language of hinduism interests them. Or say the charm of Punjabi being the language of huge Indian diaspora and a culture in its own right, or of popular music that swept not only the sub continent but Europe too. Or say it also being the language of Sikhism. or just if you find punjabi beautiful etc.

As far as the script goes, well again it depends, some find hebrew captivating, some find devanagri (hindi script). Note that hebrew is written from right to left(except numbers) and hindi, punjabi, sanskrit from left to right. Sanskrit is also written in Devanagri script, but Punjabi(Indian) is written in Gurmukhi script. I find this script very pretty. Incidentally, the characters/symbol by my name is in Gurmukhi

So uh, its your choice, but my gut tells me you should learn Hindi if there's a choice between Hindi and Hebrew, of course Hebrew speakers or people taking Hebrew will disagree but that's ok , because your question is relative.
