You can learn to play harmonica without reading music. BUT you'll always be limited if you can't read music (just like any other instrument).

You could play by yourself without being able to read music, but unless you're REALLY good at playing by ear you won't be able to play with a band or anything without being able to read music.

A fast and easy way to learn how to read music notes is below.

good question. if you are interested in studying music theory, i would reccomend buying the berklee press modern method for guitar books. they are really effective in helping you learn to read music.

There are horizontal metal lines on the guitar neck. (They are called frets.)
If you can play songs on the first string, remember that, the second string will sound the same if you place your finger a little bit further from the fifth fret. Now take it to the next level: play the same song on the second string. This is true for all strings accept one. (See if you can figure that out.) Have fun discovering new things about your guitar.
Notes: C - D - E - F - G -A - B -C is the same as
Do - Re .... you get the drift.
The first string sound without pressing it anywhere is the E note.
That's good enough to get you started I guess.

for the treble clef use this:

for the notes on the spaces, face
for the notes on the lines, every good boy does fine

For the bass clef:

notes on the spaces: All cows eat grass
notes on the lines: golf balls don't fly away

look under trainers and theres a thing that gives you the note and you press what it is and it keeps your score or something. this site has a lot of good stuff. i'll have to go back there soon.

If you ask your school's band director, they should be able to give you a book for how to learn to play the instrument you want to play. If you need help, look on the internet or ask someone at your school to give you lessons. Practice makes perfect, so once you get a book or lessons, practice.
