Velma Said:

What's the best way to learn to ride a motorbike?

We Answered:

Taking a riders learning course is always the first step. They will teach you every step to riding even if you have never been on a bike before. I'm not sure what courses are offered in the UK, but courses like the MSF riders couse is offered here in the US. Try googling riders courses in your area, and once you have completed it, and have your endorsement, practice, practice, practice!

The preference of the bike will be up to you. A cruiser type bike like the Honda Shadow or a Sport touring bike like the Suzuki V-Strom sounds like its going to be right up your alley.

Nora Said:

What do you need to learn to ride a motorbike. How do you get started. How long does it take to learn?

We Answered:

Like the first answer said, knowing how to ride a bicycle helps, because its a matter of balance. After that, get a friend who already rides and get him/her to go along to coach you. Then find yourself a nice big empty parking lot-and practice practice practice. Be sure to use a helmet because you WILL go over, and wear long jeans-NOT SHORTS-and boots/shoes with a bit of heel. That helps to keep your feet from sliding off the pegs, and the jeans help protect your legs from scrapes when you go over and from burns from the pipes.

As far as how long it takes, that's up to you. It varies from one person to the next.
