Is it hard to learn to speak Japanese?

We Answered:

I took Japanese in college, but it was hard.

First, different characters. No "A, B, C's".

Second, different cultures. They have over 40 words for the English word "Love" (wish we had more). Each meaning has a specific voice intonation, and gesturing.

Third, each person based on their social standing (rich, poor, etc) had to communicate at their social standing. It was rude to speak out of your social standing. However, foriener's are granted their own "social standings" approprate to them.

i wanna learn to speak japanese any help?

We Answered:

If you already do so much stuff in Japanese just look up the words you hear and stuff like that.

Like if you're watching anime and you hear them say a certain word a lot, look up what it means.

Also look up grammar. And if possible, speak with native speakers.

Recommended sites:

Grammar:
http://www.guidetojapanese.org/...
(Explains most stuff.)
This dictionary:
http://dic.yahoo.co.jp/
(The site is in Japanese but they have English definitions for most words and also example sentences. When you get good enough stop using the English definitions and only use the Japanese ones.
What you should know to use it:
?? - Japanese only dictionary, ?? - synonyms, ?? - English to Japanese, ?? - Japanese to English, ?????? - all dictionaries
???? - starts with, ????? - is identical to, ??? - includes, ???? - ends with, ?????? - includes ~ in explanation, ?? - search)
And use this program to remember stuff:
http://ichi2.net/anki/
(Makes things easy to remember. You can use any other spaced repetition system if you want.)
And this site:
http://lang-8.com/
(You can write an entry in any language you want to learn and native speakers will correct your mistakes, and you can help people with English or any other language you know.)
This site:
http://www.alljapaneseallthetime.com/...
(It might be a bit extreme for most people but it's the most immersion you can get without actually going to Japan.)
Firefox addon:
http://rikaichan.mozdev.org/
(Mouse-over dictionary, saves lots of time but might also make you lazy if you use it too much.)
