Learning A Language

Eugene Said:

Does learning a language subconciously work?

We Answered:

Not really. The scientists on Brainiac tried this, and found no difference between not listening to the tape, and listening to the tape.

Fred Said:

Why does singing in English when learning a foreign language help some people?

We Answered:

Singing makes the words more fun to learn and easier to remember, especially with smaller kids who find it easier to learn languages anyway

Phillip Said:

Is learning another language easier when you already know 2?

We Answered:

It depends on which languages. Many languages including English, Spanish, and Italian...all got their start from something called the Romance languages...which you can look up on wikipedia. That's why so many words are like other words in other languages. Very interesting stuff. So if you were to learn the same type of romance languages maybe it would be easier but not some...sorry.

Victoria Said:

Does learning a second or third language make it easier to learn more?

We Answered:

Yes, it opens your brain to be more flexible, to adjust your learning skills. Also, there are studies which have said that individuals who are bilingual or multilingual tend to be brighter because it exposes them to other ways of thinking. And of course they learn about other cultures, are exposed to arts, customs, etc. The more a person learns, the more questions they have, and so they never stop learning. Some people are just in love with languages and learn them for the fun of it! Once you take and learn a foreign language you feel brave enough to learn another one.

Lester Said:

What is a good way of learning a language?

We Answered:

You've kind of stated what you need to do. The best way to keep up your knowledge of a language is to use it. Maybe you could keep a journal in the language or try going to foreign language sites on the net.
