Learning At Home

Darryl Said:

I want to become a midwife but am a stay at home mum, are there any home learning courses I could do?

We Answered:

N distance learning for midwifery - would you want a midwife with no practical experience?

What qualifications do you have? You might want to start with an access course if you don't have A Levels. Money is available for help with childcare.

Sandra Said:

What is the best at-home learning school that is actually accredited?

We Answered:

For individual online courses, I like LearningLinks, through Northwestern University, EPGY (math and science, through Stanford), and the online courses from Duke TIP (at Duke, run by Duke) and CTY (run by Johns Hopkins.) They're only individual courses, though, and most are for grades 6 and up.

Karl Said:

is insurance cheaper with driving school or learning at home?

We Answered:

Insurance rates are based on statistics. (Age, gender, location) etc.. so how you learn really will have no bearing on your rates. Shop around to get the best deal. It can't hurt to ask for a quote. If you don't like it move on to the next agent.
Good luck

Marcia Said:

I need to re-sit science, which is better to do, at a college with a lab to do experiments or home learning?

We Answered:

If you're re sitting then I assume you failed first time.

If you didn't understand the work then college will be better as most prople learn better when they can ask face to face. You need to find out if the practical work is assessed, if yes then college again.

if you're re sitting because of other reasons and you understood the work then study from home. Never as much fun and you won't have a peer group to ask questions of.

Leroy Said:

why my 9 yrs old son is not interested in learning school lessons at home in my absence?

We Answered:

Your son is a perfectly a 9 year old.
A child will be a child.
Don't expect the child to behave as an adult. In fact it is wrong to do so.
Any undue pressure tactics can only demotivate him and turn him away completely from his books.
You have to be patient. Get him to some regular physical activity that would keep him fit and active. Unnecessary free time with nothing to do is the main culprit for laziness. Keep him busy in things that interests him - definitely NOT sitting in front of the TV or the computer to play games.
Get him good reading material or get him to draw, paint, play a musical instrument etc.,
With all this keep a minimum time schedule for school work as well. Don't make him depend on you or your presence for school work Encourage him to be independent with small incentives from time to time. His errors and mistakes should not make you go into a fit of rage but use polite firm words with a lot of explanations (may be over and over again)to enable him improve.
Its easy said than done.
Take care.

He seems to be a intelligent child. Don't press the panic button. He will definitely do well.
with best wishes
