Learning English Language

Wilma Said:

Questions for people who are learning/have learned English after their native language?

We Answered:

The fastest way to learn English is to learn the most popular used words and then you have the foundation for speaking fluently.

A good site that has 1,000 common English words is http://www.lingosnap.com

The nice thing about this site is that it is free and uses photos and audio, so it is easier to make associations with the word and keep it in the long term memory.

Is it hard learning the English language?

We Answered:

I live in Sweden, and I didn't find it very hard to learn English. Of course it's always hard to learn a new language, but I began learning English at the age of nine, and you learn languages quite quickly when you're a kid. I've also picked up a lot from watching American shows on tv. I guess it would be much harder to learn English if you started as an adult, and if you weren't exposed to it in your everyday life.

What's difficult about English is that you have so many words, far more words than in Swedish. Pronunciation and spelling can also be a bit tricky with all the diphthongs and stuff.

Colleen Said:

do people learning english as a language think it is difficult?

We Answered:

Nah, not really. English was easy, German was a bit tricky, but... no, not really. The analysis part wasn't fun, though.
