My friend works as a learning mentor in my school. The job involves liaising with children in school regarding their progress, attendance and behaviour and liaising with the children's parents as and when. It may also involve working along side them in lessons. The role is not clearly defined it is generally down to how the school want to utilise you. This can lead to problems both with the school and the parents. Good Luck

GREAT question! You are wise to think about your future and how to best take advantage of all the resources out there. Unfortunately, many people never seek mentors and just don't "get" how to navigate the political nature of office politics.

First of all you should pick up the book "Working with Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman. He teaches at Harvard University and has written multiple books about EI (it's the key to success in life).

As far as approaching anyone you think would make a good mentor, if you can talk to them in person that's the best way but if you cannot, an email is also acceptable. You should state three things:

1. Your goals (this should validate why you want this particular person to mentor you)
2. What you would like to learn from him/her (be specific)
3. How much time you expect from him/her (be specific, "I am hoping we could meet 1x a month for 30 minutes to ....)

Let him/her know that you realize they are very busy but state that you respect him/her very much and would like to learn how he/she has navigated their career. Be sure you are clear that mentoring does not have anything to do with promotions per se. Be on time for all scheduled meetings and again, be cognizant of his/her time.

Mentors are flattered by this approach. If the manager is a decent person, they'll be happy you asked. If the person is a jerk and says no, then you'll find out that sometimes our perception of "great leaders" are often just a front.

Its awesome you're taking accountability for your own development. You will go far in life!

Why don't you just talk to one of your bank's financial assistants. It's their job to point you in the right track with how to save money and where to invest. They're more credible than people on here that's for sure, and there's no fee because it's with your bank.

Supply teaching pays well and can be a route into permanent teaching jobs. In my area (south wales) there are far more teachers than vacancies and this is a very common way to eventually get a permanent contract. In this area, most good supply teachers are snapped up to cover for longer periods of a term or two (e.g. maternity or illness.)
