Preparing To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector

Gene Said:

Have you, or do you know anyone that has, done a Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTLLS)..?

We Answered:

I have done it as part of the DTLLS course. I have completed the PTLLS and CTLLS. I was completely new to teaching, and I found the course a real asset. It has taught me loads, and I was able to take best practice into my teaching of my specialist subject (childcare). I now have more teaching than before, and from it I am about to become an NVQ assessor too.

I have been demonstrating on gift wrapping for over 10 yrs & now want to teach it. Where do I start?

We Answered:

To become a schoolteacher, get a resume together. This is the link for a sample teacher resume:

From the same URL, here is a sample cover letter for a teacher:

Consider having someone electronically record you as you give a demonstration, so you can include the demo with your resume and cover letter.

You'll want to review the Praxis requirements (information about statewide requirements for teacher testing / licensure / certification):

Howard Said:

First job interview into teaching, can you help?

We Answered:

what was your worst lesson? why? what would you do to improve upon it? (you re-did the lesson with improvements)
what was your best lesson? why? how do you know it was good? (because the kids learnt)
how do you differentiate? how do you know your differention is sound? (you dif' by each students individual needs, you do not dif' by outcome)
what would you do if you spotted a student dealing drugs (etc) in your class? (follow college procedure.. which you would know as on successful appointment you would read the college staff handbook)
what are your views on the new OFSTED system? (you think it's great as it really focuses on the students learning)

Ok? :)
