Try dora, diego, and over 100 other games on nick Jr website. They also have a subscriber website called nick Jr boost, that have several computer games where you can actually choose games that would improve specific skills such as language, math, etc. Also, try "I SPY" computer games, if you live in the US, its very likely that your local library may have various such software CDs....so you won't have to even buy these, but just keep getting different ones from the local library.

If you are willing to spend more ( around 250 dollars or so) then you can also consider ipod touch, it has several educational applications that you can download for a buck or two....its got fun apps as well as very educational apps such as counting, tracing letters, etc...and all of these are fun...my 4 year old loves the ipod applications and can play on it for an hour quite easily.

You install a free kid-proof browser that allows your child to play hundreds of learning games and there is no way for him to "x" out or be taken to other sites through pop up adds. It also sends you an e-mail each week detailing the amount of time spent on each subject(math,reading life skills....) and how they are improving. Great program, totally free and your child will play and learn for hours and can do it all on his own.

Previous 2 answers were very good. I'd just "advise" you to have him play outdoor games (he also needs to exercise). Also, he needs things that he can create on his own (Lego, stuff like that), otherwise, he won't be much creative. And, he also needs time when he is alone, inventing stories, role plays. Kids need to have time when they get bored, so that they can create games out of their minds.
