big scale community/service learning project ideas?

We Answered:

This is really great that you are putting together something this big. Please check out the Student Conservation Association at thesca.org. Can I ask what city your school is? SCA has community programs in many major US cities: http://www.thesca.org/serve/community-programs

Hi! I´m reading the new book of Bill Clinton called "Giving". You can find really good ideas in there on how to help people and make community service from where you are.

You can always volunteer at your local hospital. Most hospitals have - or had - volunteers called 'Candy Stripers' or 'Pink Ladies' - (though males are very welcome to volunteer as well)!

The Veteran's Hospitals are always in need of help - so that may be an option as well.

Or, you may want to check out Services4ServiceMembers@yahoogroups.com which will allow you to offer assistance to military members and their families while they are being transferred to a new assignment, deployed on military assignment, or on a remote assignment.

The Humane Society is also always in need of volunteers to assist with animal care, etc.

Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, as well as 4-H (to name a few) are also in need of volunteers.

For some organizations, if you could put in 8 hours twice a week (Saturday/Sunday) - for example, would give you 16 hours a week of involvement, so a month with 4 weeks would give you 64 hours, so about 4 and 1/2 months should about have you covered.

ideas for service learning enrichment- environment.?

But cleaning up litter is fun. Seriously, my partner and I pick up one bucket of litter every week and unless there's nobody else around someone inevitably stops to thank us for what we're doing.

Fresh air, good exercise, and a fun community service that many are grateful for... how can you beat that? :)

Check out our blog, we write weekly about our adventures: http://inthebucket.wordpress.com/

Good luck with your project, I like your idea by the way!
